Domino and mahjong sets have a fixed, well-defined tile count, which makes it easy to catch a missing piece before it ruins a game. Domino sets follow the standard double-n construction, so the expected count for any size — double-six through double-eighteen — can be worked out directly. A standard mahjong set totals 144 tiles once you add the three suits, the winds and dragons, and the bonus flower and season tiles.
