Scoring conventions, set sizes, and tournament formats vary by region and by house rule, so for a scored match, a printed bracket, or a competitive event, confirm the result against the rules your group actually plays by.

Results Are General Estimates

The tools apply standard, widely documented formulas and round their output for readability. A pip total, a probability, a bracket seeding, or a tile count can differ from what a specific house rule or a specific manufacturer’s set expects. Always confirm a result that matters against your own set and your own rules.

Why a Result May Look Off

A calculator can return a surprising or unexpected answer when:

• House rules differ:some groups score a blocked game differently, cap round scores, or use a “fives” scoring variant our default doesn’t assume.
• Inputs don’t match your set:entering a pip total or tile count that doesn’t match your physical set’s actual size will skew the result.
• A value is out of range: a negative pip count, a hand larger than the set, or a player count under two has no valid result.
• Manufacturer sets vary: some commercial mahjong or domino sets add bonus tiles or use a different total than the standard count our tile inventory tracker assumes.
